Contemporary learning theories about the ethiology of fear and fobias

Among the classical theories, the ethiology of phobias has one of the simplest model. Watson and Rayner explained the phobias as a result of simple classical conditioning, where an Unconditional stimulus (any natural stimulus that causes fear) is associated with a conditional stimulus (the new object of fear). Modern approaches states that the role of classical conditioning is important in the ethiology of phobias, but is isn’t the only learning mechanism related to it. The Observational (where the subject learns how to fear copying what others fear) and the Instructional (where the subject learns to fear an object due to the information that others gave to him) learning are also important models in the acquisition of phobias.
